2008-09-22_Minutes--Procès-verbal' September 22, 2008 33-2008 Minutes of the Portion of the Committee of the Whole Meeting Open to the Public nd Monday, September 22, 2008, 5:00 p.m. Ludlow Room, City Hall Present: Mayor Court, Deputy Mayor Chase, Councillors Court, Farren, Higgins, Killen, McGuire, Snook, Sullivan, Titus - and - P. Woods, Deputy City Manager; J. Nugent, City Solicitor; A. Beckett Deputy City Manager Programs & Priorities; E. Gormley, Common Clerk; and J. Taylor Assistant Common Clerk 1. Meeting Called To Order The Mayor called the Committee of the Whole meeting to order. 2. Ward Meetings Referring to a submitted report, the Deputy City Manager of Programs & Priorities updated Council with respect to Council Ward Meetings. Mr. Beckett indicated that he has been meeting with the community development staff in the Leisure Services Department to determine how to best proceed with Council’s request for Ward Meetings. Mr. Beckett indicated that the Leisure Services work in various communities and have close connections with many neighbourhood groups. As such they were able to offer great insight regarding how to best organize the Ward meeting sessions. Mr. Beckett provided Council with a document outlining the recommendations as to the meetings that should be held. Fourteen meetings in total are recommended to provide the best accessibility possible for the City’s diverse array of neighbourhoods and communities of interest. On motion of Councillor McGuire Seconded by Councillor Killen RESOLVED that Common Council accept the proposed dates for the fourteen Ward meetings as recommended by the Deputy City Manager of Planning & Priorities. Question being taken, the motion was carried. On motion of Councillor Killen Seconded by Councillor McGuire RESOLVED that the Deputy City Manager Planning & Priorities define the roles of Council members and staff as well as provide the structure and format of the Ward meetings. September 22, 2008 34-2008 Question being taken, the motion was carried. 3. Discussion of Confidential Matters On motion of Councillor McGuire Seconded by Councillor Titus RESOLVED that the public be excluded from the meeting for the 10.2(4)(d); duration of the discussion on the following matter(s): Negotiations 10.2(4)(b,j). Employment Matter Question being taken, the motion was carried. Common Clerk Record Pursuant to Section 10.2(4)f The meeting of the Committee of the Whole of Common Council held on September 22, 2008 was closed to the public pursuant to Section 10.2(4) of the Municipalities Act 10.2(4)(d); during the Committee's discussion of the following matter(s): Negotiations 10.2(4)(b,j).
