Minutes of the Portion of the Committee of the Whole Meeting Open to the Public
Monday, January 17, 2005, 5:00 p.m.

Common Clerk and Deputy City Manager and E. Gormley, Assistant Common
Clerk.
1. MeetinQ Called To Order
The Mayor called the Committee of the Whole meeting to order.
2. Saint John Development Corporation Presentation - Coast Guard Site
Referring to a submitted report, Charles Swanton and Bill McMackin presented a brief
history of the Saint John Development Corporation and updated the Committee on the
objectives for the Coast Guard site. Mr. McMackin spoke of the Corporation's intention
to complete a call for expressions of interest for the development of the
technology/education center consistent with the objectives proposed in the Growth
Strategy and the Inner Harbour Land Use Plan. He presented the proposed time line for
the proposal, and asked for Council's support for the initiative.
Mr. McMackin advised that after expressions of interest are received, they would be
short listed to the best three, and they would come back to Council at that time.
On motion of Councillor Farren
Seconded by Councillor White
RESOLVED that as recommended by the City Manager, Common
Council authorize the Saint John Development Corporation to issue a "Request for
Expression of Interest for a Development Partner for the Coast Guard Site", and to
include within this document, city owned lands generally considered to be part of what is
considered the Coast Guard Site.
Question being taken, the motion was carried.
The Common Clerk was directed to add the above item to the agenda of the regular
session of Council later this evening as item number 1.7.
