POLICY SECTION: UTILITIES & INFRASTRUCTURE
The City of Saint John Corporationwill strive tobe carbon neutral by 2040.To achieve this goal The City of Saint John will
promote the efficient use of energy in its municipal and water facilities, systems, processes that consume energy, fleet, and
equipment, as well as being committedto continually improving the energy performance within the scope of its Energy
Management System, while also improving the performance of the Energy Management System. The City of Saint John will
achieve this aim by:
Providing the necessary information and prioritizing the resources to achieve our energy performance objectives and
targets.
Satisfying legal and other requirements related to energy use, energy consumption and energy efficiency.
Continually improveenergy performance and the Energy Management System.
Establishing energy performance improvement objectives and targets within the organization’s annual business planning
process.
Supporting the procurement of energy efficient products and services that impact energy performancein a fiscally
responsible manner.
Considering energy performance during design and modification of its facilities, fleet, equipment, and processesin a fiscally
responsible manner.
Continue toeducateand raiseawareness among those impacted by the Energy Management System regarding the energy
policy, objectives, and targets to reduce energy consumption and efforts to improve energy performance.
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions from energy consumption and contributing towards mitigating the impacts of climate
change.
Minimizing the emissions from fossil fuel consumption with the use of alternative or renewal energy sources.
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to state the Corporation of theCity of Saint John’s commitment to mitigatingclimate change
through energy conservation and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Scope
The scope of the Cityof Saint John EnergyManagement Plan applies to all new and existing municipal and water facilities,fleet
vehicles and transit buses, and processes that consume energy
