1. Call to Order
1.1 Land Acknowledgement
Councillor Sullivan read aloud the Land Acknowledgement and called for a moment of
reflection.
"The City of Saint John/Menaquesk is situated is the traditional territory of
the Wolastoqiyik/Maliseet.The Wolastoqiyik/Maliseet along with their Indigenous
Neighbours, the Mi'Kmaq/Mi'kmaw and Passamaquoddy/Peskotomuhkati signed Peace
and Friendship Treaties with the British Crown in the 1700s that protected their rights to
lands and resources."
1.2 National Anthem
The Saint John Youth Orchestra under the direction of Choir Director Jon Fisher
performed O Canada by video.

Moved by Deputy Mayor MacKenzie, seconded by Councillor Stewart:
RESOLVED that Common Council award Citizen of the Year for 2021 to Shirley McAlary,
and further that Common Council award Council Commendations for 2021 to the following
recipients:
• Alex Ash
• Derek Chaisson
• Hazel Clarke
• Paul McDade
MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
4. Adjournment
Moved by Councillor Stewart, seconded by Councillor Hickey:
RESOLVED that the Special Meeting - Civic Awards of Common Council held on May 181n
2022, be adjourned.

1. Ouverture de la seance
1.1 Reconnaissance du territoire
Le conseiller Sullivan a lu la reconnaissance de territoire et a demands un moment de
reflexion.
La ville de Saint John/Menaquesk est situee sur le territoire traditionnel des
Wolastoqiyik/Malecites. Les Wolastogiyik/Malecites, ainsi que leurs voisins autochtones,
les Mi'Kmaq/Mi'kmaw et les Pescomody/Peskotomuhkati, ont signs des traites de paix et
d'amitie avec la Couronne britannique dans les annees 1700, qui protegeaient leurs droits
sur les terres et les ressources. »
1.2 Hymne national
L'orchestre des jeunes de Saint John, sous la direction du directeur de chorale Jon Fisher,
a interprets I'O Canada en video.

Propose par I'adjoint a la mairesse MacKenzie, appuye par le conseiller Stewart :
IL EST RESOLU que le conseil communal decerne le titre de citoyen de I'annee pour 2021
a Shirley McAlary, et que le conseil communal decerne les mentions elogieuses du conseil
pour 2021 aux recipiendaires suivants
