RESOLVED that the Common Council of the City of Saint John adopt the following
policy statement: -'The City of Saint John is committed to a multicultural, multiracial
community. It considers the presence of people from a wide range of racial, ethnic,
cultural and religious backgrounds to be a reflection of the Canadian ideal and a source
of enrichment and strength. It firmly believes that its diverse publics have a significant
role to play in participating in Municipal Government as well as in the life of the
community. The City of Saint John affirms the equality of all people. The City of Saint
John will not tolerate discrimination on the basis of race, national or ethnic origin, colour
or religion. The City of Saint John promotes understanding, sensitivity and positive
attitudes towards people of all ethnic, racial and cultural origins. The City of Saint John
will ensure that these multicultural values are reflected in all City by-laws, policies and
programs, and in the promotion and delivery of services.":
