Mayor Darling called the Growth Committee open session meeting to order.
Moved by Deputy Mayor McAlary, seconded by Councillor Lowe:
RESOLVED that the agenda be approved as submitted.

1.1.1 Minutes of June 12, 2018
Moved by Deputy Mayor McAlary, seconded by Councillor Lowe:
RESOLVED that the minutes of June 12, 2018 be approved.

1.2 Growth Targets - Mid Year Check -In
Growth Committee Meeting
Open Session
August 7, 2018
P. Ouellette, referring to the submitted reports and presentation, provided an update on the
progress of the Growth targets, mainly:
- Growth Work Plan Updates
- Roadmap for Smart Growth
- Population Growth
- Employment Growth
- Tax Base Growth
- 2018 Growth Targets
Moved by Councillor MacKenzie, seconded by Councillor Armstrong:
RESOLVED that the Growth Committee receive for information the submitted report entitled
Mid -Term Update on 2018 Growth Work Plan and Targets, and submit it to Common Council as
an information item.
MOTION CARRIED.
1.3 Growth Reserve Fund Update and Request
Moved by Deputy Mayor McAlary, seconded by Councillor MacKenzie:
RESOLVED that the Growth Committee recommends that Common Council authorizes the
transfer of up to a maximum of $200,000 from the Growth Reserve Fund towards Growth and
Community Development Services to support the pursuit of growth -related activities.
MOTION CARRIED.
1.4 Discover Saint John Presentation
Referring to the submitted presentation Victoria Clarke of Discover Saint John gave a review of
2017 highlighting:
- Increase in numbers of visitors
- Increase in tourism revenues
- The many events that took place in 2017
Ms. Clarke responded to a question regarding funding from the City of Saint John by explaining
that City's portion of funding to festivals and events is $100,000 a year. For the 506 festival the
City does not contribute any money but they do provide some in-kind support.
Moved by Deputy Mayor McAlary, seconded by Councillor Armstrong:
RESOLVED that the presentation from Discover Saint John, be received for information.
